Nord Pilots specializes in Ice Advisory services for polar regions, with a strong focus on the Canadian Arctic, Greenland, Svalbard and Antarctica. Our team consists of senior officers with extensive experience navigating in challenging ice conditions.

Baltic Sea & Gulf of Finland

Based in Estonia, we also provide Ice Advisory services for vessels operating in the Baltic Sea, Gulf of Finland, and Bothnia Bay. Our Ice Advisors typically embark from The Skaw, the end of Kiel Canal, or Tallinn roads, where we have reliable solutions in place for crew transfers via launch boats.

Remote Ice Advisory

Our story

NordPilots was founded on the vision of an experienced Arctic icebreaker captain who built his career in the most demanding polar waters of the world.

Captain Sokk built his career in some of the most extreme maritime environments on the planet.

He began his Arctic career in the Canadian Arctic as an Icebreaker Captain, commanding vessels in some of the most demanding ice conditions worldwide. Operating in heavy multi-year ice, remote waters, and limited infrastructure environments, he developed deep operational expertise in ice management, convoy assistance, and safe winter navigation.

Following his command at sea, he transitioned into ice pilotage, working as an Ice Pilot in the Arctic and later expanding his operational footprint to Antarctica, supporting vessels in complex polar conditions. His experience spans both hemispheres, giving him a rare dual-polar perspective on ice navigation and vessel risk management.

He subsequently qualified and served as a Marine Pilot in Greenland, operating in technically demanding fjord systems and ice-affected coastal waters of the North Atlantic.

With a clear vision to provide specialized, high-standard ice navigation services, he founded NordPilots — a company dedicated to professional ice advisory, pilotage, and polar operational support.

What began as the professional evolution of an ice-seasoned Icebreaker Captain has grown into a respected provider of ice navigation expertise, serving clients across the Polar Regions, the Baltic Sea, and beyond.
