Baltic Sea & Gulf of Finland

Based in Estonia, we also provide Ice Advisory services for vessels operating in the Baltic Sea, Gulf of Finland, and Bothnia Bay. Our Ice Advisors typically embark from The Skaw, the end of Kiel Canal, or Tallinn roads, where we have reliable solutions in place for crew transfers via launch boats.

Our story

Our story began in the Canadian Arctic, where two experienced mariners worked together while navigating some of the world's most challenging ice-covered waters. Years of shared operational experience, mutual trust and a passion for safe navigation ultimately led to the founding of Nord Pilots.

Today, we provide professional ice advisory services built on real-world experience, helping shipowners, operators and masters navigate ice-covered waters safely, efficiently and with confidence.

Nord Pilots was founded by two experienced mariners whose professional partnership began in the Canadian Arctic. Working together in one of the world's most demanding ice navigation environments, they gained extensive hands-on experience operating in heavy ice, remote regions, and challenging polar conditions.

Together, they combine decades of operational experience across the Arctic, Antarctic, Baltic Sea and other ice-affected regions. Their complementary backgrounds provide clients with practical expertise in ice navigation, voyage planning, operational risk management and Polar Code compliance.

With a shared vision of delivering independent, professional and experience-driven ice advisory services, they founded Nord Pilots. Today, the company supports shipowners, operators and masters worldwide with reliable ice advisory, pilotage support and polar operational expertise.
